MAKER'S NOTES
about the work
Small Studio Study 002 is part of an ongoing series made directly from Alice's practice, works that exist outside commission and brief, pieces made to explore rather than resolve.
From a distance the work reads as abstract and block-like. Move closer and the surface reveals itself, the marks of the punch needle, the layers of yarn, the texture built through time. That shift between distance and intimacy is central to how Alice thinks about her work.
Romney is a British wool breed, chosen here in its natural, undyed state. Natural tones, browns, neutrals, soft whites, form the entire palette. No dye, no addition. The material as it is.
ALICE LIPTROT
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alice Liptrot is a textile artist based in Folkestone whose practice sits between drawing and making. Working with punch needle as a form of mark-making, she translates ideas into layered, tactile compositions where yarn becomes both line and surface.
Her work is grounded in British wool and material constraint, a commitment to knowing where things come from and how they are made, developed over ten years co-founding and running a British knitwear brand sold internationally.
Three works found their way to MUSE through the team themselves, each one chosen for the story behind it and the quiet intelligence of the making.
